It was only a few years ago when R&B singer and Baltimore native Mario made the news for having an alleged fight with his mother. Mario’s mom, Shawntia Hardaway publicly admitted to her issues with substance abuse on an MTV documentary back in 2007. The singer is now using his experience of growing up with a drug addicted mother to help others. The Mario Do Right Foundation launched its substance abuse program at REACH! School this month. Roc Nation’s J. Cole recently celebrated his 27th birthday in D.C. at The Park at Fourteenth. Cole, and all his teeth, also celebrated his Gammy nod. The “Mr. Nice Watch” rapper is up for Best New Artist.

We also hear the artist is back in the studio already working on his sophomore album. The untitled LP is due out in June 2012.

Russ Parr Morning Show’s Vic Jagger brought the District a different type of late night happy hour experience last Tuesday at Recess Lounge (727 15th Street). “Cocktails & Conversations,” hosted along with Ashe Entertainment Group infused social networking and signature cocktails, while allowing young professionals to network, create business opportunities, exchange ideas, and mingle with industry notables.

It looks like President Obama was a kid in a candy store when he stopped by the Washington Auto Show earlier today. I’m sure the Prez was happy to leave the White House to look at the latest models of Chrysler, Ford and Jeep, to name a few.
