Recap: Verizon DROID event at Vintage Lounge
By Boston Fab • December 16th, 2009
Tuesday night I headed out to the Verizon sponsored (Swat Team Movement promoted) DROID event at Vintage Lounge with my Fab! Friend Michelle. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I heard free apps and was like “I’m there!” Y’all know how I am about my freebees
Once through the door we were greeted by a very pleasant hostess who showed us where to put our coats, handed us a gift bag (usually they give those to you after the event, it was nice to get one early) and 4 drink tickets…ummm excuse me? Yup, 4 drink tickets. Well thank you very much!
Verizon literally transformed Vintage Lounge into a virtual hot bed with dock stations with DROIDS we could test out. It was a really great use of the space with Verizon software on strategically placed computers, TV’s and monitors giving you the feel that you were some place else.
Over the threshold of this “new world” one of the attendants immediately came by to show us features of the phone. Apparently the DROID has a longer battery life than the I Phone, and the largest screen of any PDA system. She also showed us the cool GPS feature that not only shows the traffic, it also does turn by turn voice directions. There is a touch screen, so you can use the keyboard on the screen or an actual keyboard. The screen has tension so you can feel when you’re pressing something, even on the screen. When we got to text a bit, the texts would show up on the TV screen in the bar area. So cool!
They asked us if we wanted to sign up for the Text Wars where we had a chance to win and take home that day a DROID phone. Um yeah…:) then we went over to cash in on our drink tickets. The bar staff was very attentive. They did a cool thing with the drink tickets that I hadn’t seen before, 1 ticket was beer or wine, 2 tickets was a well drink or in our case shots of Café Patron. (Why didn’t anybody tell me about this drink before!!!). The thing I really like about Vintage Lounge is that they do have one of the most knowledgable bar staff in Boston - they carry everything. All the Grey Geese (lol), all the flavors of Belvedere, I didn’t even know they made a raspberry Belvedere…suffice to say they are well stocked.
While sipping they called my girl up to join the text battle and she smoked ‘em! Yes, she won a DROID! She’s never won anything before so she was really excited! Yay Michelle! They gave away four other phones…I even got to try for one and lost miserably. Ah well
We stayed around a bit more to get some actually food in us…4 drink tickets…we ordered fries, which were good. and a mozzarella pizza that was yicky, no flavor, while we checked out what was in the gift bags. Turns out we got some goodies: Mints and a Verizon Wireless wine stopper. Not too shabby…it’s like they made this event for me or something. LOL
I found this event super fun. I’m glad that Swat Team Movement sent the invite and I hope that they’ll do more things like this in the future.
