Manny Rhoaming Entertainment decided to celebrate his birthday with NOIR Marketing this weekend at the event 12:12 at Blu a sheik restaurant located above the Ritz Carlton that overlooks the Boston skyline.

I arrived around 11 p.m. and took the elevator to the 4th floor. Once the elevator doors opened I was smack dab in the middle of the “standing room” only section of the fashion show. Claude Sanon (aka @JFKSwag) had saved me a seat (thanks again!) but I felt that getting through the crowd would have caused quite the uproar. And for those who didn’t get seated on the sides of the runway, were out of luck as far as seeing the actual show.

I tried to find the coat check…which unfortunately was also in the area of the fashion show making everyone who brought a coat either have to stash it or wait until after the show to utilize it. Of course later this caused quite a back up. Also I thought they were collecting toys for children? I brought something to donate, but never found out where they were putting the donations, I left it somewhere so hopefully it got to the right place.

As I wasn’t all that interested in the fashion show, not that I could have seen it even if I had been, continued on to the bar and dance floor areas to take in the breathtaking views of the Boston sklyline. I waited, and waited, and waited for my drink. OMG the bar was staffed with four people, none of which knew how to take more than one order at one time.

They didn’t have separate stations at the bar so all three of them were on one end or the other. One woman was giving change and refilling water when she shoulda been taking drink orders…a hot mess.  I asked for Bellvedere as I saw the bottle, but they didn’t have it available only Grey Goose, *sigh.Silly me, I shoulda ordered something stronger the first time, but only went once and didn’t return.

The fashion show finally wrapped up around 11:30 and the party on the dance floor commenced. The room situation turned out to be as awkward as it looked as there were still amp’s and sand bags on the dance floor as well as all of the folding chairs from the fashion show set up still aligned the wall simply looked tacky. But, they were actually utilized for by us ladies who needed a respite from our stilettos :) So for that I was thankful.

Although this was a partial celebration for Manny’s Birthday I heard no shout out for him, and the head table on the dance floor was reserved for world reknown Floridian Photographer Dwayne Moore who was tailed by his camera crew. Apparently they are taking footage for a reality show on his life. Which hey, all fine and good for you, but I was a bit disappointed that Manny’s day appeared to be overshadowed by Moore’s entourage.

The dancing continued, though credit is due mostly to the energy of the crowd rather than the actual skill of the DJ. He was in IPOD autopilot mod, playing some songs all the way through. There were no transitions only a “press forward” to the next song. I even heard a guy say “that’s exactly what he played last time” Ouch! It made me doubt that the guy can actually spin a record. Oh, the wonders of the technology *smh.

Fortunately some of my fab! Favs were in the building, including DJ Alcide (I give you full permission to hijack the tables next time), Jack Merard (@JY0ung_Fr3sh), The F.R.E.S.H. Men crew, I even got to meet a few Fab! Fans, Sandra and @FritzGoldenChild. Good times!

I was also really glad to see that people stepped their game up as far as their outfits, I could count on my hand the number of people who decided to wear jeans, and the shoe game for the ladies was so SERIOUS! I do however wish more men would have worked on their approach a bit as I witnessed (and experienced) several faux paus that I gotta share. 1. Telling a woman she looks, mean, tired, sad, upset is NOT A GOOD OPENER. Why are you telling me how I look? Why don’t you try making me change my attitude with a joke, a laugh or by just being your charismatic self instead of telling me what is your perception of me. Mad corny. 2. If I or another female is on their phone, not looking up – do not, under any circumstances attempt to take the phone out of her hands. It’s not cute, not funny, and might get you injured. 3. Touching rule of thumb: Don’t touch a woman unless she touches you first. If you are trying to get her attention, patting on the shoulder with an open hand, rather than poking makes an incredible difference. And just for the record – grabbing is never sexy. Bonus: If a woman says “take care” or “enjoy your night” you’re dead in the water. Save yourself the embarrassment by not coming back for seconds. Usually there are more of us women then there are of you men…feel free to keep it movin’.

Now back to the recap – In essence it was nice to be exposed to Blu and I think it is a great to be able to use a different downtown location for parties such as these. Is the set up ideal? Eh, not really. The flow of the place is awkward and I’m not quite sure how to make it flow better. And if they are going to market the place as a club then they need to get club bartending staff.

I give kudos to NOIR for taking on multi-layered events, but again, as you transition from one thing to the next the clean up and timing should be executed quickly for maximum enjoyment and sometimes y’all talk too much sometimes I feel like you’re MCing instead of letting the party flow naturally and it gets to be a bit annoying. The only person that should be on the mic is the DJ and even that should be minimal.
